Description
The Chicopee High School Girls Basketball Collection was donated by coach Michael J. Thompson. Thomspon coached the girls varsity team from 1980 to 1990 and accumulated a record of 161-41. He led the Pacers to ten straight appearances in the Western Massachusetts Division I tournament winning the title four times, 1980, ‘81, ‘84 and ‘86. He moved on to coach the women’s basketball team at Western New England College (now University). In his final season with the Pacers he was chosen as Coach of the Year by the Holyoke Transcript-Telegram and had a record of 14-8 going into the Division I Tournament.
The materials in this collection contain scrapbooks from each season created by the coaching staff, official scorebooks from each of the eleven seasons Thompson coached, yearbooks of the team from the 1970s and early 1980s and scorebooks from some of the coach’s freshman team season.
