As described by the MA Historical Commission: "Located on a rectangular lot adjoining the City Hall, and facing Market Square, the Chicopee Public Library is a Classical Revival building constructed of red pressed brick with trimmings of white granite. It rises two levels from a rusticated stone basement to a low hip roof which is covered with sheet copper. Its main facade is dominated by a recessed, ionic columned (in antis) and pedimented entrance. A broad flight of stone stairs leads to the entrance, which in turn is flanked by tall, fully enframed and console bracketed, tripartite windows. Its corners are accented with large quoins and it is encircled by heavy, classicized stone cornice."
