<dcterms:description>A photo album of the Carter mansion, formerly located at the corner of Church & Grove Sts in Chicopee. Built by Elias Carter (1781-1864) circa 1837, it was the home of the Carter family including Elias's son Timothy Carter (1809-1890), who helped establish Chicopee as separate from Springfield in 1848. Elias built another home following Timothy's marriage to Eliza Harriet Bayley (1822-1903) in 1843, and Elias moved into the "new" home (not pictured in the album), while Timothy and his new family remained in the "old" house. The mansion remained in the family until 1923, when the property was bought by the Chicopee Falls Elder Council of the Knights of Columbus #927. The mansion was eventually demolished sometime in the 1950s.

The album is bound in grey paper, and holds 13 black and white images of the home (interior and exterior), as well as a seated portrait of Timothy W. Carter. </dcterms:description>
