A black and white image clearly showing the damage to the hull of the USS Witter. The white text in the lower right corner of the image reads "U.S.S. Witter (DE 636)' Looking inbd. to fwd. viewing stbd. hull, frs. 47-66; showing damage caused by plane crash + bomb explosion; docked in AG 70 off Okinawa; taken June 1945; P.N.Y. no. 1621-45; photo no. 4." The photo shows a large hole torn in the side of the ship as it sits on steel beams. [The photograph is slightly warped, which appear in the digitized version as orange-red streaks.] The reverse of the photo is stamped "Official photograph; not to be released for publication," and shows some water damage along the top edge.
