A three-page letter home from Francis, dated March 14, 1944. The letter included a flower (possibly a carnation) that has stained the pages. The paper is quite thin, and is watermarked "American Trust Bond." In the letter, Francis congratulates a family friend who is getting married, and lists off several places that he's been during his service, and says that there are several other places but he can't tell them yet. He also states that his appearance has changed drastically, and nobody at home would recognize him, also saying he'd love to surprise everyone when he's granted his first "liberty in the States." He signed off "your son Francis," and wrote Francis Ogrodnik WT 2/C OSNR" along the bottom of the final page. The envelope is addressed to Mr. Joseph Ogrodnik, and is stamped "PASSED BY NAVAL CENSOR" with initials in the middle of the stamp. The envelope's postmark is dated 1945; it's unclear if this envelope was mistakenly placed with this letter, or if the letter's sending was significantly delayed by the Navy/armed forces.
