<dcterms:description><![CDATA[A two-leaf (four page) letter from Francis to his mother, dated August 15, 1943. This letter is written on both sides of each sheet; paper has a "United Nations Victorious" logo in the upper left corner of each page. Written while at the University of Minnesota Naval Training School, Francis describes being a Corporal of the Guard (spelled "gaurd') and the overall functions of the guard unit. He describes spending his day off in town looking for a camera; and then attending Mass the next day and singing in the choir. He mentions that after Mass a photographer took a "picture of us," possibly the group photo included in this collection (item CPL-Ogrodnik-046). He discusses adding "stickers" to his uniform that indicate he is a fireman; he also discusses the technicalities of his rank now vs when he gets on a ship "in November or December." The envelope is addressed to Mrs. Joseph Ogrodnik, from F. J. Ogrodnik F 3/C CO-11; N.T.S. M.M. Farm Campus, Dexter Hall, University of Minn, St Paul Minn." The back of the envelope is marked "V-mail" in pencil.]]></dcterms:description>
