Subject

Sailors--Chicopee (Mass.)--Correspondence; United States. Navy; World War, 1939-1945

Description

An undated letter (postmarked November 14, 1944) written by Francis to his mother & family. The letter is two pages, single-sided, and written on Air Mail-branded paper. He states that "a lot of things have happened that I can't mention, otherwise you would know why it's quite more difficult than ever to write," and briefly references attacks by the Japanese. He mentions having voted for FDR but not knowing if he was elected or not; and says another sailor from Springfield has been sharing newspapers with him whenever he can. He writes that they have not received mail in a long time, and thus has no idea what might be going on at home. The envelope is addressed to Mrs. J Ogrodnik, and sent from "Francis Ogrodnik WT 3/C U.S.N.R., U.S.S. Witter (DE 636) E Div., c/o Fleet Post Office San Francisco, Cal." The envelope was stamped as passed by the Navy censor.
