Subject

Veterans--Correspondence; Aerial attacks; World War, 1939-1945

Description

A handwritten letter to Joseph Ogrodnik Jr. from Allan G Schwartz [someone noted his name on the upper left corner of the letter, misspelling it as "Schwarts"], providing his memories of serving on the USS Witter and of Francis Ogrodnik. Schwartz explains that due to a stroke he suffered, his memory isn't what it used to be, but he briefly relates the events ending in Francis's death, and notes that "wartime restrictions and censorship left most of us with nothing but bad memories; and a desire to forget and get on with living." The letter is written in blue ink on lined white paper, and is two double-sided pages.
