The image is of a woman dressed in a shift, overshirt combined with a headscarf, and long skirt. She is standing barefoot on a road with grass and trees in the background. The figure is balancing a large platter on her head. On the bottom margin of the photo, in pen, is "Selling Roti (an Indian food)." Written in pencil, in cursive, on the center back of the photo is "Selling roti (an Indian food)." Under the British colonial system, many people from Southeast Asia came to Caribbean countries including Trinidad and Tobago as indentured servants, creating a large and vibrant Indo-Trinidadian population.
