Description

A pamphlet given to service members/their families on the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard CV-31, printed for Navy Day on the 27 of October 1945 in San Francisco. The pamphlet includes a list and descriptions of the different departments aboard (air, gunnery, navigation, engineering, hull, communications, supply, and medical), a brief history of the combat record of the ship from its first joining of the Third Fleet Task Force 38 on June 6, 1945, through its recalling from Tokyo on August 15, a poem "Manhattan to Tokyo to San Francisco," detailing the ship's journey with cartoons around it, images and descriptions of daily life on the the ship like meals, entertainment, and religious services titled "The Metropolis Bon Homme Richard: A Complete City," and a dedication to those who died called "Lest We Forget." The back of the pamphlet includes the sentence, "The officers and men of the Bon Homme Richard have been honored by your visit. Good sailing! Good bye!"
