Description
A newspaper clipping from the sports page of a local paper. The headline is "Chicopee Falls Man Wins Final Football Contest." Below that, the byline reads, "Henry Ukleja Had Nearest Correct Scores of 19 Persons Who Picked Nine Out of 10 Correct Results; To See HC-BC Game at Boston on Saturday." The text of the article reads "The eighth and final Football Contest sponsored by The Daily News last week was won by a Chicopee Falls man, Henry Ukleja, 7 Yale St., Chicopee Falls. Not a single person was able to name all 10 correct results and only 19 were able to pick nine out of the 10 winners. A check of the scores shows that Mr. Ukleja was the winner, being nearest correct to the actual scores of the games. All Expenses Paid The winner will receive two tickets to the Boston College-Holy Cross football game at Braves Field in Boston on Saturday along with round trip railroad fare for two, plus cash for meals, programs and other incidental expenses. Mr. Ukleja is asked to telephone the Football Contest Editor tomorrow at noon to arrange to pick up his tickets. Call Springfield 2-3112. Other persons who were able to pick nine out of 10 correct results were Larry Augustus, 2654 Main St., Springfield; Ann Raichi, Main St., Hazardville, Conn.; Wanda Nowak, 7 Dowling St., Chicopee; John Fenton, 36 Mattoon St., Springfield; Jane Still, 42 Abby St., Chicopee; Lester W. Clark, 15 Lasalle St., East Longmeadow; Madeline Caron, 941 Chestnut St., Springfield; Everett McVey, 116 Bloomfield St., Springfield; Mario Cocchi, 851 Worthington St., Springfield; Lucy Dupont, 54 Bell St., Chicopee; Edward Dunn, 225 Rosewell Ave., Springfield; Carol Ann Chaderjian, 67 Bridge St., No. Agawam; Alyce Bruso, 27 Washburn St., Springfield; Claire Melnyk, 728 Page Boulevard, Springfield; Norma Wasileski, 7 Dean Ave., Warehouse Point, Conn.; Raymond Knight, Middle Road, Hazardville, Conn.; Chester Smola, 75 North St., Three Rivers; John Foy, 39 Lathrop St., West Springfield. So thus comes to a close another season of trying to pick the football winners. It has been a funny season, funny in that the favorites often went down to defeat and made it all the tougher for fans to figure the same games each week. Seldom during the eight contests sponsored by this newspaper during the season was a person able to get all 10 correct results. It was usually the same as last week, a matter of who had the nearest correct scores. It is the hope of The Daily News that the fans enjoyed these contests as much as the newspaper and the Football Contest Editor did. It may sound a bit strange but there were times during the season when a person had all 10 wrong. To attempt to pick 10 losers is just as difficult as it is to pick 10 winners."
