The text on the white sign translates to, "Musashi Province," "Meiji," "Holy vestige place," "Emperor," and "Mt. Tenran." Taken together, this sign refers to the story of the Meiji Emperor visiting Mt. Tenran visiting this site in 1883 to oversee military activities. This was a popular tourist site throughought the twentieth century.
